NOTE FROM THE EDITOR:

The idea of starting a new journal in Applied Sociology came up in the Fall semester of 1997 in the Sociology 600 Seminar. We felt we needed a forum where we could engage in dialogue not only about the methods of sociological practice but also about the discourse of sociological practice. The former studies the application of knowledge to social issues, the later explores the social, cultural or ideological language of what today we call sociological practice.

We first decided to call the journal, "Practique Sociologique" hoping unwittingly that the French expression would create enough ambiguity so that we may pursue analyses of the "social," "practice," and "practicing sociologists" all in the same forum. But soon we were reminded by an astute observer of the sociological practice, Robert Dentler, that by adopting a French name we would facilitate becoming dismissed by some readers or mis-shelved by some librarians as foreign. The choice of the new name: "The Discourse of Sociological Practice," throws us completely out of the "closet." However, we decided to go slow on that route.

DSP publishes both submitted and invited manuscripts. Authors retain copyrights to their work and may publish them elsewhere. We invite scholarly and research papers on a variety of topics relevant to applied or clinical sociology, applied social psychology, and sociological theory and methods. After the paper has been reviewed by referees and accepted for publication in the journal, we will nofify the author. Contributors each receive one complimentary copy of the issue in which their articles appear. Manuscripts should be prepared either in ASA or APA formats. They should be mailed to the Editor both in hard copy and eletronic formas (MS Word). Please use the email address Siamak.Movahedi@umb.edu to submit the files. Hard Copies of Manuscripts and any other inquiries should be directed to:
