GSSA holds Spirit of Boston Applied Sociology Students' Graduation Party

GSSA Fall 2003 to Spring 2005

Maria Rocha-Tracy and Jillian Spooner served as Co-Presidents for the Graduate Sociology Student Association. Kathy Clark was the vice President year 2003-2004, and Allan Enario vice President Year 2004-2005.

As representative of GSSA, during the past 2 academic years Maria and Jillian organized participated and volunteer in several events that support community developments and students’ life enhancement on campus. We became members of Umass/Boston Graduate Student Assembly and attended biweekly meetings and faculty council once a month.

1. 1. Held tables during U Mass open houses and recruited students for the GSSA and for the BA/MA Five Year Program and the Forensic Program.
3. 2. We served as Students Ambassador Conference on Dangerous Intersection- 2004

   3. Volunteered at the fund raising -- New Campus Center Gala 2004

   4. Worked on UMass Campus opening party- Black Jack dealer, Poker dealer, Graduate Student Assembly, 2004

   5. Helped with Graduate Academic Conference Committee, Graduate Student Assembly, and as part of the conference we organized a forum/outreach /lunch “Show Case for Success” event 2004

   6. Outreach and Publicity Coordinator and Program Coordinator Search Committee
   
9. 7. Organized Fundraiser “Warm Hands and warm Hearts Money Donation Raffle” to benefit the Long Island Shelter (Boston) Winter Apparel Fund. We Raised over $300.00 -2004
   
11. 8. Donated over 200 bags of “Her Bags” personal care products to the Women of Means a non profit organization that provides free medical care among other things to women who are poor or homeless or victim of domestic violence.
    
13. 9. “The Spark of Life Basket for the Jumpstart Program-2005. It was about collecting arts and crafts material for preschool children that can’t afford it.
